August 2003 - Local Fun!

A few thoughts on some of these recent images. I've spent a fair amount of time this year photographing Sunflowers. I'm most pleased with these recent imgages as I believe I'vefinally captured the essence of what I saw and felt from the experience. Nancy Rotenberg a friend and wonderful photographer has helped me to "see beyond the handshake" as she says and I feel many of these images do that. To me they capture the rhythm, color and texture of the flower.

I especially like the softness of the XPAN's at the bottom of the page. They were done by panning the camera vertically while triggering the shutter. My attempt was to create a more painterly feel to the image, a watercolor painting if you will. I've added a "straight" shot at the bottom so you can see the difference. The Purple and White Clematis is my first attempt at using Photshop to alter an image with a filtered Watercolor effect.... Some will balk at the idea but to me it is just another tool to express the vision... Enjoy!
